FREE HAF SEND Farm & Forest School Family Day

A family day of forest school, farm fun and crafts for all ages.

Eligibility: These sessions are FREE to attend and are funded by the WSCC HAF grant. The sessions are specifically designed for children with special educational needs and disabilities, physically disabled children, their siblings, parents and carers. To access the free places children will also need to be eligible for benefit assessed free school meals and each have a HAF code to book their place.

Date: Sunday 7th April, 10-3pm

Location: Applefield Smallholding, Chalk Lane, Sidelsham, Chichester

The day..

The Morning:

  • Explore the smallholding and meet some of the farm animals. Feed and meet Rosemary and Angela the donkeys, Chilli, Olive and Jigsaw the goats, the sheep and chickens, including bedroom slippers the chicken!
  • Participate in some forest school activities such as fire lighting, whittling sticks to toast marshmallows over the fire, learn to use some hand tools to make a woodcraft item.
  • Bug hunt and mud kitchen
  • Swing and hammock
  • Natural crafts
  • Relax and spend some quality time as a family in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
  • Be involved in preparing and cooking the lunch over the fire.

Lunch: Lunch is included as part of the day

The Afternoon:

  • Easter themed crafts to take home as a reminder of your day with Lizzie at Lizzie’s Craft Club.
  • Relaxing and soaking in the therapeautic atmosphere of Applefield.
  • Entertainment from Chris North – Freedom Through Fun.

Price: FREE – Places are fully funded through the WSCC HAF grant.

Booking information: ALL childrens spaces should be booked through the WSCC online booking page and can be found by seaching our event through: https://haf.bookinglab.co.uk/westsussex/37147/login. (The WSCC free spaces HAF booking page goes live on 19th February)

Siblings under school age and parent/carer places. Siblings who are under school age and who will not have a HAF code due to their age can attend for free and do not need to book via the app. Parents/carers also attend for free and do not need to book a place.

Important information: ALL children who will be attending including siblings (school age) will need to book a place using their HAF code. Places are limited and are offered on a first come first served basis.

SEND details: We would be grateful if you can let us know any information that you feel necessary. This is so that we can support your child and offer them the most positive and enjoyable experience at the sessions. Unfortunately we cannot offer one to one support for children who attend these sessions.

My child has food allergies: There is a section on the order form to complete with any food allergies. If you would like to discuss any food allergies or other requirements further please do get in touch. woodlandwondersforestschool@gmail.com

What to bring: Lunch and hot drinks are provided, but you are more than welcome to bring along any snacks and water bottles that you may require. There are some chairs on site, but please do bring picnic blankets and picnic chairs to make yourself more comfortable at lunchtime.

Things to note: Parking will be available in the farmyard or the field(weather permitting) with plenty of wheelchair access and space for lowering ramps etc. The site is wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair friendly bathroom with hoist and changing area.

If it rains: We have a communal greenhouse and fire side shelter which can be used for activities or at lunchtime.

Extreme weather: We will endeavour to run these sessions in most weather, however if we do need to cancel do to bad weather we will contact you via email or the number you provide on your booking.

Your data and how we use it? We require you to complete a consent form for all attendees, the information we gather is to ensure the day we plan meets the needs of the children attending and is used as part of the current event only. Your information is not kept after the event has finished. We will only keep your email if you have given consent for us to email you to inform you of further family days and if photo consent is given, use the photographs for event pictures, Facebook page, our website or blog page.

Where is Applefield Smallholding?
Applefield smallholding is a privately owned smallholding in Chalk Lane, Sidlesham.

What are the facilities?
We have use of a composting toilet, running water and hand washing facilities. There is parking along the road or along the drive into the smallholding.
