FREE Family Day for families who receive free school meals

Who is this for:

This is a free session and is for children who receive income based free school meals and their parents and carers.

Things to do on the day..

  • Explore the smallholding and meet some of the farm animals. Feed the goats and donkey.
  • Participate in some forest school activities such as fire lighting, whittling sticks to toast marshmallows over the fire, learn to use some hand tools to make a woodcraft item.
  • Bug hunt and mud kitchen
  • Swing and hammock
  • Crafts
  • Relax and spend some quality time as a family in a beautiful and peaceful setting.

Lunch: Lunch is included as part of the day

Option 1: Burrito bar. A selection of fillings will be on offer to make your own burrito, which will be wrapped in foil and warmed through over the fire. Served with salad. The Burrito bar will have both meat and vegetarian options to choose from on the day.

Child Burrito option: Kids sausage burrito (vegetarian/gluten free sausage are also available, please list any food requirements on the booking form). Fruit kebabs and homemade mini muffin.

Option 2 for adults and children: Picnic lunch: Freshly prepared ham or cheese and salad rolls, Fruit kebabs and a homemade muffin.

There will also be snacks and hot and cold drinks available.

Price: FREE – (Please only book onto one of the family sessions)

These sessions are funded by the WSCC HAF food and activities fund and are free for families who’s children receive(FSM) free school meals,(FSM based on income/means tested benefit). If you are unsure if you are entitled to a free place please check using the governments eligibility criteria for FSM https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals/west-sussex before booking your place. Your child’s school will also be able to let you know.

Food allergies:

There is a section on the order form to complete with any food allergies. If you would like to discuss any food allergies or other requirements further please do get in touch.

What to bring and wear:

  • Please wear clothes suitable for outdoor/farm environments.
  • Picnic blanket or folding chair if you want to make yourself more comfortable.
  • Sun cream and sunhats/wet weather clothes depending on weather forecast.
  • Please feel free to bring along any extra snacks or drinks.

Covid-19

All staff and volunteers will take a lateral flow Covid test regularly and inline with government guidance. Hand sanitiser and hand washing facilities will be available to use at regular intervals and are situated around all the sites.

Cancellation and refund policy:

If you are unable to attend please let us know asap so we can offer your places to a family on the waiting list.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We will continue the session in most weathers and have use of a communal greenhouse in wet weather.

Your information and how we use it

Funded places: For funding purposes the details of all those who have booked a free place will be shared with WSCC HAF food and activities fund to record the success of the scheme and for their impact survey.

All bookings: At time of booking we require some information about you and your child, for example allergies, alternative needs or special requirements, first aid, email and emergency contact phone number. This information is only kept for the duration of the course or event and your contact number will only be used by us in the event of an emergency arising with your child or if we need to contact attendees prior to the event to give extra information. If you consent for us to use your email to contact about future events, this will only be used by Woodland Wonders (we do not pass these details onto any other 3rd party) and will be used only to send details of other events run by Woodland Wonders that we think you may be interested in. If you consent for photos to be used, these will only be used for our Facebook page, website and promotional purposes only and are not passed onto anyone else. Where is Applefield Smallholding?
Applefield smallholding is a privately owned smallholding in Chalk Lane, Sidlesham.

What are the facilities?
We have use of a composting toilet, running water and hand washing facilities. There is parking along the road or along the drive into the smallholding.
