Gareth has started a new Forest School project at a local primary school; he is working with year 5 and 6 students on the school grounds. The school has a small wooded site within their grounds, most of the area is on a hill but there’s enough of a flat area for activities.
The first session ran after school today, 12 children attended with 2 very good helpers from the school. The children came well prepared with wellies and wet weather gear but it had turned into a gloriously sunny and warm afternoon. As it was the first session the group met at the fire circle to get to know each other and then made friendship bracelets. Gareth showed them through the tool box as a way of introducing health and safety issues to the group, they explored the site and played some games. The children made fairy houses and as they were enjoying it so much they spent ages on this activity.
The children then started their log books that they will keep adding to while taking part in Forest Schools. The 2 hours they had together flew by and they all (Gareth included) loved having time to play in the woods!
